ALWAYS CHECK CRAIGSLIST FIRST.....I bought a new beach cruiser for my wife last night, the lady that was selling it had ridden it maybe 3 times and then just threw it into her garage. The tires were so new they still had the nipples on them. (stop laughing, what are you 12?) it was a 7 speed and looks like this one, minus the basket.
New, these bikes are somewhere between $175-$200...I got it for $40. I am pleased. The deals are there if you look hard enough.

Good call, but also be very careful when buying a bike on craigslist, a lot of them are stolen.

True, but this wasn't in any sketchy areas. Not a tweaker sale. I've had luck looking around in well to do areas for bargains on stuff.

Pff, bicycles. Who needs them?
Note: I got harassed by a cyclist when I was waiting for a parking spot [the dude did leave a second after]. She thought I was parking on the bike lane [I wasn't] and made a snide remark. I was calm enough to shake my head at her rather than do the single finger salute.

I love living in a college town, because when students move out after their education is done you can pick up some cool stuff pretty cheap.

I can't figure people like that out. No reason to be so damn uptight just because you choose to drive rather than pedal.

True, but as long as you check thoroughly for an engraved name or number, or a tracker, you're good. Remove the seat (most GPS trackers go in that part of the frame or attach to the bottom of the seat) and any stickers (covering up ID numbers) and if the seller won't let you, walk away. Even if it is stolen, if it can't be identified you're good to go, legally. I'd feel bad buying a stolen bike, personally, but it's not likely that it would ever be returned anyway.

I dunno, it was more of the case on what she thought of me as I sat waiting for a parking space on the Honda 919. Guess she hates motorcycles as equally, if not more than cars.
Edit: I also had my right signal on if that says anything.

I bought my daughter a Cadillac Eldorado for 1/4 a cheap Huffy from Walmart. Thing was mint!

No kidding. I actually found my old bicycle on sale - which got stolen (I would like to applaud them for sawing through my lock) back in High School. Armed with a photo, I got it back.

I can't recommend this enough. Last year, after searching for months, I found a minty fresh 1996 Dyno Coaster stretched beach cruiser locally on Craigslist. The guy rode it twice and put it away. For what I paid, I practically stole it.

I've been thinking of getting one of those myself. Mind if I ask what you paid?

That is sad, but what I see are husbands making room in the garage, getting rid of excess because a baby is coming, or a new model junkie selling last year's bike so they can get the new one with different paint.
Same goes for skis.

You aren't in Northern California, are you? I noticed the cyclists up there are very aggressive in all the wrong ways....and probably for all the wrong reasons too.

Also pawn shops. I bought a road worn (paint chips, but overall straight) Trek 7000 for like, $75. In good shape, they're around $200-$300 bikes.

I've never had good luck in those places. Always seem priced too high for what they were.

My dad had a tire shop for a while when I was a kid, they were referred to by everyone in the business as nipples. Maybe they changed the nomenclature because we are all immature little shits here in 'Murica.

I recommend getting one. I can't ride it anywhere without getting a compliment. They range anywhere from $600 to $1,200 and it is difficult to find them on the east side of the Mississippi. I paid $250 for mine.

Thanks! No way. It's incredibly easy to ride..You just have to get used to the long wheelbase. I frequently call it the Cadillac of bicycles.

$250! Good deal. Are you in Cali?

I'm in Ohio. The bikes were built and shipped out of California.
There are quite a few in California...But I didn't want to deal with shipping and all of those headaches...
My dad loved my bike and wanted his own...Luckily a month after I bought mine, I found another Coaster on Craigslist. We completely restored his with black powdercoat and fresh chrome. I'll be keeping mine all original. Tires and all.

Ones in that condition are hard to find now. I've been toying with the idea of restoring one myself. My cruiser is a Dyno that i brought back from the dead. If I can find an old frame like yours I may have to do it again. If I see anything interesting on the local CL, want me to let you know?

Do it! The Dyno bikes are going to be collector items soon enough.
There is no need to keep a lookout for me. Two Coasters are enough...However, I found a Roadster on my local Craiglist just a few minutes ago...
